Reconstruction and construction of new hydroelectric plants in Kyrgyzstan require 4.5 billion US dollars, says the president Sooronbai Zheenbekov.
According to him, the main goal is to meet the demand of the country for electric power with the use of HPPs, and to export electricity abroad.
“We are facing now with a goal to execute a large-scale reconstruction of existing hydroelectric facilities and to build new ones, including Kambar-Atinskaya HPP-1, Upper-Naryn Cascade, and Kazarman HPP Cascade. To reach the goals we need 4.5 billion dollars”, said Mr Zheenbekov.
He outlined that the role of international financial institutions was crucially important to develop those projects. These institutions have experience in HPP construction and introduction of new technologies. The head of the state also asked the partners to support “green energy” projects and the construction of small HPPs.
