Dagestan Republic needs big construction which will show that the region’s economy will be renewed, and big changes are coming. According to the First Vice Prime Minister of Dagestan Gadjimagomed Guseinov, the citizens of the Republic are waiting for these changes. One of the projects will be the construction of small HPP cascades on the river Samur.

Dagestan harnesses just 30% of its hydroelectric potential, says Mr Guseinov. He associates further development prospects of hydropower with plans on establishing an energy cluster with hybrid generation, including hydropower, solar and wind.

Initially, it is planned to build two small HPPs on a small dam requiring investment of 6.6 billion roubles. Further on, another 7 HPPs will be built with the overall capacity of 170 MW. The government of Dagestan is now working on the project. Sberbank has preliminary approved the project; the detailed analysis of the financial model is now underway.
