Main » News » President Ilham Aliyev: “Iran-Azerbaijan…

“Today’s meeting with President Rouhani is our 11th meeting over the past four years. This figure is an indicator of itself. I have visited Iran four times over the last four years, and this is the third visit of Mr. Hasan Ruhani to Azerbaijan. At the same time, we have met within the framework of international events and all the meetings have great meaning and importance. The agreements reached during the meetings are being implemented and give good results. Over the past four years, many important documents have been signed that have given a great impetus to the comprehensive development of Iran-Azerbaijan relations,” said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in a statement to the press after the signing of bilateral documents with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
The Head of State noted that the two countries actively cooperate and support each other in the international arena: “Iran always supports Azerbaijan’s just position on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the basis of the norms and principles of international law within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and gives its voice to adopted resolutions at international organizations. Therefore, we are very grateful to Iran. At the same time, Azerbaijan is always with Iran in all international issues “.

President Ilham Aliyev said that Iran invests in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan invests in Iran and these investments serve the interests of both sides: “I am sure that after this visit, we have talked about this today – additional investment will be planned. Today, assignments have been given to relevant agencies for further trade turnover, and I hope we will witness it. Today, many documents have been signed, and I would like to highlight two documents among them. These are documents related to working together in the Caspian Sea and building the Astara-Rasht railway. These documents are historically important. Our cooperation in the Caspian Sea and in the transport sector will level up with the implementation of these documents, and at the same time, it will have a very positive impact on regional cooperation. We are successfully cooperating in the energy sector. Documents that have been signed in recent years, particularly regarding Khodaafarin and Maiden Tower hydropower plants, as well as the construction of Ordubad and Marazad hydro power stations, deepen cooperation in the field of electricity. Today, we have decided to develop multilateral cooperation format in the energy sector “.

The Head of State noted that the relations are not limited to bilateral formats: “We are successfully operating within the trilateral, quadrilateral format of cooperation. Two meetings of Presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia, the meetings of the Foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey in Baku and Tehran, the first meeting of the Foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran, Georgia and Turkey recently held in Baku – all these meetings support regional cooperation, stability and peace. Today, our countries are also successfully cooperating in the regional format and make a great contribution to our common cause. ”
