Along with the thermal power plants, Azerenergy is now conducting restoration and repair works at Mingyachevirskaya hydroelectric plant which comprises 6 hydro generating units. Once the project is completed, the reliability and safety of the plant will be improved.
The project provides for the renewal of the automatic emergency response system and protective equipment; the equipment of the global and leading companies is being now installed and assembled at the plant. The works are being executed to avoid accidents which happened in summer 2018 when the entire power system of the country was down. The scheduled works on units № 1, 3 and 6 have been already completed. The works on the units №2, 4, 5 are afoot.
The new equipment will be introduced at Shamkir and Enikendskaya hydropower plants. To date, the restoration works are underway at water discharge facilities which are now in a critical condition. These facilities of Shamkir HPP have been under operation for 37 years. The corrosion and cracks appeared on the floor; concrete layers at a 160-m three-block underground water tunnel are broken. To prevent water leakage and crash of the unit, a project has been prepared which involves local and foreign experts.
The works envisaged at Shamkir HPP will not be limited just by the above activities. The project also provides for reconstruction of outdoor switchgear, hydrounit generators excitation systems, a control centre, SKADA monitoring system, frequency automatic regulation systems and an active power system. The completion of these works is scheduled for 2020.
